High Performance Building Products

Through innovation, technological advances, industry demand for superior building systems, increasing energy and maintenance costs, HPBS can offer complete building science solutions for your building needs. By using the highest quality corrosive resistant steel, insect resistant Perma Guard EPS insulation cores, and an excellent lamination adhesive, the HPBS SIP can offer superior performance to achieve your project requirements. The High Performance SIP has been tested and certified for use in the most extreme building conditions and environments. The HP SIP is manufactured under a monitored and certified quality control agency program and is engineered and tested to withstand extreme weather conditions and all that nature has to offer.

Benefits of SIPs

Save on Labor

· Cutting and fabricating, based on your construction drawings, can be done quickly and accurately. A HPBS SIP panel does not warp, twist, shrink, deteriorate, swell, or mold when left exposed on a job site, even for extended periods of time. HPBS SIPs are available in any length up to 53 feet so assembly on site is faster, installation crews are more productive, and the project is completed sooner. These features allow the builders to control their cost, their time, their project management, and keep their schedule. In addition, other subcontractors enjoy working in an “already insulated building” whether it is in the summer or winter.

Ease of electrical and plumbing

· The interior surface of the wall and roof panel is typically furred out with 1 1/2" furring channels to promote conventional installation of wiring and plumbing before sheetrock is installed. Some structures, typically commercial, industrial, and specialty buildings, surface mount the electrical or conduit to the face of the HP SIP. Plumbing is typically installed in interior walls and floors, but not in the exterior walls. Where exterior wall vent pipes are necessary, chases can be formed in the foam cores. Installing island vents or loop vents is also a common practice and can be found in plumbing codes.

R-Value of SIPS

· The R-value of a SIP varies depending on the thickness and type of foam core used. According to a study by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the "whole-wall" R-value of a wall with a 3-1/2" EPS core is 14 compared to 9.8 for a 2"x 4" wood framed wall insulated with R-11 fiberglass insulation. When the performance of the whole wall system is considered, SIPs perform better than traditional systems because they are manufactured in a controlled environment characterized by uniform fabrication of components without gaps or air pockets. They are also designed for efficient field installation that reduces air infiltration, and there are few thermal breaks or penetrations in the panels that are typical of wood frame construction.

Energy use

· A reduction expectation on energy costs can be realized of 50% or more due to the superior HP SIP thermal building envelope. The insect-resistant EPs core does not sag, settle or absorb moisture allowing for years of superior insulating performance. Because a HP SIP creates a significantly tighter building envelope than conventional insulation and construction, the mechanical engineer and builder can reduce the size of heating and cooling equipment. A HP SIP has a heat pump requirement of 900 feet per ton of cooling. A traditional home (wood frame or block) has a cooling requirement of 450 square feet per ton. A key element of the HP SIP is the thermal performance offering energy costs and long-term durability without reduced costly maintenance associated with traditional products.

Strength of the Panel

· The HP SIP has been tested and is engineered to offer significant structural performance for the entire building or home. The HP SIP has been tested in heavy missile impact, wind borne areas for use in educational facilities for wind and water impact, and have been of field proven and tested through testimonials of customers experiencing hurricanes and other natural disasters. A number of structures have been accented with photo voltaic and /or solar panels making the home almost independent of externally supplied electrical energy. Significant structural tests have been completed in accordance with the following established and approved test methods:

  • American Standards Testing Methods (ASTM)
  • Underwriters’ laboratories (UL)
  • National Association of Fire Protection (NAFP)
  • Florida Building Commission
  • Department of Community Affairs
  • Housing Urban Development (HUD)
  • Federal Emergency Measures (FEMA)
  • Various county and state building departments

Insect Resistant

· Termites, weathering, warping, twisting, rotting and other issues associated with wood SIPs are simply NOT a problem with HP SIPs. Because HP SIP panels are a composite panel system with GalvaLume steel skins, insect troubles are avoided, while the threat of mold and mildew is significantly reduced. The HP SIP is manufactured using borate treated EPS insulation cores offered as a standard product feature.

Superior Durability

· The HP SIP interlocking joint system is designed and engineered to create a weather-tight, airtight exterior barrier, thermal fluctuations, wind cycles, and pressures do not break down the metal barrier like other traditional materials. In the areas of high winds, earthquakes or extreme weather, HP SIP panels out-perform other building materials. HP SIP panel systems are engineered to withstand winds up to 200 mph when properly installed.

Total Design & Flexibility

· With HP SIPs, beauty and design do not have to be sacrificed for energy efficiency and cost. HP SIP panel systems are a refreshing solution to this challenge. HP SIP panels can be cut to accommodate almost any type of archway, architectural feature, door or window detail. Once the HP SIP system is installed, it can be finished with any standard finishing product: stucco, brick, hardboard, sheetrock or whatever finish the owners choose.
